“HE’s the Same God”

Acts 7:32 “I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob….” Acts 7:32

One could possibly think that time flies by, especially as you get older. You happen to look up and it seems like just yesterday you were learning how to drive or graduating from high school or getting that first job. You recall the events of the day, as your mind reflects on the way things used to be and the people, places and events that consumed your time and being; those things both good and bad. Where has the time gone?

The way the world is now, with so many changes and uncertainties gives way to thoughts of simply expecting the unexpected. Who would have thought the things that are happening today would have ever happened or would be happening? Who would have thought that people who think they are in charge would be “in charge?” Notice the air quotes. SMH. Who would have thought with all the advances of technology and time, experiences and thought processes that some things would (still) be happening?

As we look at what Moses was doing in Acts 7:32, we find him looking at a bush, consumed by fire. Please don’t miss that after he looked at the miracle of what was taking place, he heard the Lord’s voice. In fact, the LORD is still speaking today. Time is passing. The world is changing. Confusion is running rampant; yet the same GOD of our fathers and Abraham and Isaac and Jacob is the same GOD of the right here and right now.

In this Season of Lent, may we rejoice in the fact that the same GOD who made a way back then, whatever your back then might be, is the same GOD that’s delivering and speaking and providing and listening and moving and blessing right now, even in the midst of the good and bad!

Loving Master, Savior and LORD, thank YOU for being the same GOD, gifting us with new mercies, miracles, signs and wonders even right now! In the name of JESUS. AMEN!

The Rev. Dr. Steven L. Lyons, Presiding Elder - Western District Western NC Conference
